Most people start out to learn spanish word and phrase variations when speaking Spanish. Right? Wrong. This approach to learning a language was created decades ago when traveling was more difficult and most people who wanted to learn a language wanted to do so because it was novel, not because it was useful. Learning a language in this manner is not learning a language at all.
Being able to say that you know a language means that you are able to carry on a conversation without restraints, you can read and write with ease, and you can hear the language being spoken and understand what is being said. Learning how to construct basic and, let’s face it, useless sentences does not prepare you for actually using a language.With this type of instruction, all you are prepared to do is entertain a few strangers at a cocktail party with your ability to say, my dog eats apples- and even they will lose interest soon.
